YOUSSOUF KOUMBASSA is one of the world’s leading instructors of traditional Guinea dances, and continues to be in great demand nationally and internationally. He is the founding Artistic Director of Les Ballets Bagata, and a former artist with Ballet Djoliba, the National Ballet of Guinea. After 13 years and hundreds of performances around the world with them, he moved to the United States. Youssouf travels to Guinea regularly, oftentimes taking students, and returns to the U.S. with the latest developments in contemporary dance so that his teaching is always a mixture of traditional work and the dances that infuse popular culture. He is featured in Landouma Fare, a travelog/documentary about Guinea’s Landouma people. Youssouf has also created a series of Guinea dance instructional videos – Wongai, Volumns 1 and 2 - and produced an edited version of one of Les Ballets Bagata concerts in New York City.
